Catalogue Raisonné

Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings by Gabriele Münter (1877-1962)

The Gabriele Münter- und Johannes Eichner-Stiftung is currently compiling a catalogue raisonné of Gabriele Münter’s paintings.

Work on the catalogue is twofold:

1) Documentation
Details of literature and exhibitions are gathered for each painting, and the provenance of the work reconstructed. The extensive Gabriele Münter- und Johannes Eichner-Stiftung archive plays a central role here.

2) Ascertainment of present whereabouts
Gabriele Münter’s paintings form an extremely wide-ranging oeuvre currently estimated at around 2,300 paintings on canvas, cardboard or wood. Ideally, the catalogue raisonné will register, document, and illustrate every painting.

The present whereabouts of a large number of paintings are unknown, and anyone with relevant information is requested to contact the Foundation at the address below. All information will be treated with discretion.

Paintings of uncertain or doubtful authenticity can be brought and presented to a scientific committee.
